Bio
Tianle Zhao is a London-based visual artist trained in Interior Architecture at the University of Westminster. Her practice explores how emotional states are shaped, contained, and restrained through material and spatial structures, approaching sculpture as a form of spatial thinking.
She works primarily with soft and responsive materials such as fibre, fabric, wax, resin, and spray foam, transforming them into fixed and constrained forms. Through processes of solidification, binding, and enclosure, her work examines how care, intimacy, and protection can shift into control, weight, or suffocation.
Drawing on architectural logic, Zhao constructs sculptural environments that function as spatial bodies—spaces that hold and contain emotion. Through material contrast and spatial restraint, her installations translate personal and relational experiences into tangible, quietly negotiated forms.
